Reflexology is based on the principle that the feet (as well as the hands) are mini maps of the human body. Reflex points on the soles, tops and sides of feet correspond to particular areas, organs and glands in the body.
Reflexology aims at balancing the whole of your being by treating your mind, body and spirit, rather than a set of symptoms. It can help:
Treatment works on your reflex points using the tips of the thumb or fingers. The pressure applied is firm (but can be adjusted according to each individual), and as specific areas of the feet are treated, you will experience sensations around different parts of the body.
Areas that induce the most discomfort indicate that the corresponding part of the body is more out of balance than those areas with less discomfort.
Sports Massage is a form of therapy designed to assist in correcting imbalances that have already built up in soft tissue. These imbalances can arise just from using the body in a repetitive way, in sport or in day-to-day life. Tensions build up in the soft tissues as we use them and this is completely natural. However, it is the pattern of the tension and how long it remains that can result in pain/discomfort/stiffness and can also be detrimental to sporting performance.
You can think of Sports Massage as working to dissipate the tensions and “resetting” the body to a state from which it wants to work, making your body happier and more efficient.
Physiotherapy uses a variety of techniques to help your muscles and joints work to their full potential, helping to repair damage by speeding up the healing process and reducing pain and stiffness.
Physiotherapy can play an important part in rehabilitation, such as helping you relearn basic movements, if for example you have suffered a stroke.
